The Gracey 12/13 curette is a double-ended, site-specific instrument engineered for subgingival scaling and root planing. Its blade is offset at approximately 70° to the terminal shank, so only the lower cutting edge is used — this gives correct blade-to-root angulation with minimal soft-tissue trauma and superior tactile feedback compared with universal curettes.

Clinical Application

The Gracey 12/13 is indicated for posterior teeth — mesial and distal surfaces. A combination pattern carrying a 12 blade on one end and a 13 blade on the other, covering both posterior mesial and distal surfaces with a single instrument and reducing instrument count per tray set-up.
